John 17:1-24 - A Study of Jesus' Prayer -
Jesus lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said,
Father, the hour is come; glorify Your Son, that Your
  Son also may glorify YOU:

Jesus came to glorify Father, not Himself... He came to
lead us to our Father... to reconcile us to our Father according to Father's
will, Father having sent HIM to do so ... giving us the ministry of
reconciliation. (please read 2 Cor 5:18 below).  As a child of
God... through being born of His Spirit, Father glorifies us ...
that we may glorify HIM and His Son through our union.

Jesus prayed: Father, the hour is come; glorify Your
Son, that Your Son also may glorify YOU: As
You have given me power over all flesh, that I
should give eternal life to as many as You have given me.  And this
is life eternal, that they might know YOU, the
only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom YOU sent.

Jesus continued: I have glorified YOU on the earth:

Jesus never came to place emphasis on HimSelf,
so we would worship Him... it was His desire to do His Father's will, that we
honor His/our Father first, (please read John 4:24 and John 4:34 below)) He
said when we see HIM we see our Father. (please see John 8:19, 8:55 and John
14:7, 14:9 below). To know Jesus... is to know Father!

Jesus continued: I have finished the work which YOU gave me to do.  So
Father, glorify me with Your Spirit/Self ... with the glory which
comes from YOU and which I shared with YOU before the world was.

When Father spoke as recorded in Mat 3:13-17
(you can read this scripture below), He acknowledged Jesus as HIS SON, in
  Whom HE is well pleased.

Jesus affirms this as He continued: I have manifested YOUR NAME,
all which represents Your will, Your nature, Who You are, Who I
am as Your son/offspring, in whom You are well pleased. I have
manifested Your Name to those YOU gave me to be sanctified
for such: Yours they were, and YOU gave them to me as part
of the fulfillment of Your redemptive plan; and they have kept Your
word, please preserve them when I leave this world. They were given the faith
to believe, and act upon that which was alive in them, not only for the
sake of those of this generation but for those in generations to come.

Jesus continued: Now they have known that all things whatsoever YOU have
given me are of YOU.  For I have given
them the words YOU gave me to speak; and they have received
and have known through Your revelation knowledge imparted into them, surely
that I came out from You; I am Your offspring, I
reflect Your nature and will by who I am being through our union!   Thus
they have believed that You indeed send me.

I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for those who YOU have
given me; for they are Yours. And all mine are Yours,
and Yours are mine for we are one in spirit and truth; and
I am glorified in them, through that which has been imparted and revealed
  as truth.

And now I am no more in the world for my time to return to You has come, but
these are in the world. Holy Father keep through Your own
name those whom You have given Me, that they
may be one, as we are one.

We are created to be one with the nature/will of Creator God/our
Father... manifesting to the world the family of God, like Jesus Christ represents
the Name/nature of our heavenly Father... because His will/Spirit/words
dwell/abides within us revealing HIS truth, according to HIS
unfolding plan.... and before Jesus goes to the Father to sit at His
right Hand ruling and reigning as King and Priest, living to intercede for
us/through us, as we too have been seated with Jesus in Heavenly places,
as Kings and Priests, through the works of Calvary, Jesus is asking
Father to continue to keep us in HIS Own Name... and continues to do so inspiring
many to stand in faith even today (please see Eph 1:15-23, Eph
2:4-10, Heb 12:2, Heb 1:15, Rom 8:34 below for scripture references) It
is Father God in/with Christ, within us today, Who ever lives to intercede
for/through us! (For we are no longer at war with HIM or His intention.)

Jesus continues: While I was with them in the world, I kept them in Your
Name: Thus... the name and Gospel of Jesus is the name and
Gospel of His/Our  God and Father. (please consider Rom 1:1, Rom 1:16,
  Rom 15:16, 1 Pet 4:7 below)

Jesus continues: Those that You gave me I have kept, and none of
them is lost, but the son of perdition; (Judas: please cross reference Psalm
41:9 with John 13:8-21, (especially vs. 18) and Matthew 26:2-24 for
further insight) that scripture be fulfilled as
prophesied in days of old. I come to You now; and these things I
speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.
I have given them YOUR word; (Jesus is the word of God made
flesh, who dwelt among mankind, but those of the world did not
recognize Father, although those ordained recognized Father's word in
Him, manifested through Him, that Father sent Him. Please consider John 1:10
and John 1:14 below) and those of the world have hated those
You gave Me, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the
world. I am of one mind with You and not one mind with those of
the world, for I am in the Spirit and not in the flesh.  I pray not
that You should take them out of the world, but that You would
keep them from evil. They are not of the world but are of
You, even as I am not of the world, but of You.  Sanctify them
through Your truth: Your word is truth. Father's
word fulfilled/revealed/acted upon/spoken through Christ and His Spirit
filled/controlled disciples today, imparts life and truth.

As You have sent Me into the world, even so I also sent them into the
world with the power You give Me to impart.  And for their
sakes I sanctify MySelf, that they
also might be sanctified through Your truth.

Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also
(us) who shall believe on Me through their word/testimony/actions in days
to come;  That they all may be one; as YOU, Father are in
me, and I in YOU, that they also may be one in us:
that the world may believe that YOU sent me.... through
Your word becoming flesh in them, through the union/witness of our Spirit in
  them.

As a fulfillment to this... I believe it has been revealed to me,
very soon the eyes of the world will be open to HIS truth like never before,
exposing lies, bringing about the greatest spiritual renaissance since
Pentecost ... as believers become one through the Spirit of
unity/truth, having been conformed to the image of Christ, in due
season, revealing to those of the world, we are HIS... we are of
His Spirit .... we are in the Spirit and not in the flesh. (Please
  read Romans 8:9-14 below).

Jesus continues: And the glory which YOU gave me I have
given them; that they may be one, even as we
are one:  I in them, and YOU in Me, that they
may be made perfect in one/unity; and that the world may know that YOU sent
me, and have loved them, as YOU have loved me.  (please
  consider John 16:27 below)

Father, I will that they also, whom YOU have given
Me, be with Me where I am; that they may behold My glory,
which You have given Me: for YOU loved Me
before the foundation of the world. (please read Eph 2:4-10
again, to see one of the ways you are with Jesus in Spirit and truth and
thus can behold His glory/within, can be aware of His abiding Presence)

Thank you for considering this study on John 17 and
for taking the time to read it!
  Scripture References:

And all things [are] of God, Who hath reconciled
us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of
  reconciliation;

God [is] a Spirit: and they that worship Him
must worship [Him] (Father) in spirit and in truth.

Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will
of Him that sent me, and to finish His work.

Then said they unto Him, Where is thy Father? Jesus
answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me,
ye should have known my Father also.

Yet ye have not known Him; but I know Him: and if I
should say, I know Him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I
know him, and keep His saying.

If ye had known me, ye should have known my
Father also: and from henceforth ye know Him, and have seen
  Him.

Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you,
and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen
the Father; and how sayest thou [then], Shew us the Father?

  Note:  in the above Scriptures,
Jesus is comparing HimSelf to Father as One who is one with their Father's
nature/Spirit/will/power... because they are HIS Offspring, of HIS DNA, sent
  in HIS name)

Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to
be baptized of him. But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be
baptized of thee, and comest thou to me? And Jesus answering said unto him,
Suffer [it to be so] now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all
righteousness. Then he suffered him.  And Jesus, when he
was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were
opened unto Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like
a dove, and lighting upon him:  And lo a voice from heaven,
saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the
Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints,  Cease not to give
thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers;  That the
God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give
unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge
of Him (Father):  The eyes of your
understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of His
(Father's) calling, and what the riches of the glory of His
(Father's) inheritance in the saints (through
Christ, whom He sent),  And what [is] the exceeding greatness of His
(Father's) power to us-ward who believe, according to the working
of His (Father's) mighty power, Which He
wrought in Christ, when He (Father) raised Him
from the dead, and set [Him] at His own (Father's) right hand in
the heavenly [places], Far above all principality, and
power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this
world, but also in that which is to come: And (Father) hath
put all [things] under His feet, and gave Him [to be] the head over all
[things] to the church,  Which is His body, the fulness of Him
  that filleth all in all.

Note: when I was born of the Spirit of God in 1978, I was led
to pray this prayer and the one in Eph 3:14-21 for myself, and later for
the family of God... as I recognized Jesus in me living to intercede before
our Father in our behalf. If you have not already done so... please consider
praying this prayer before our Father and His son.

But (Father) God, who is rich in mercy, for
his great love wherewith he loved us,  Even when we were dead in
sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace
ye are saved;)  And hath raised [us] up together, and
made [us] sit together in heavenly [places] in Christ Jesus:
That in the ages to come He (Father) might shew the exceeding
riches of His (Father's)  grace in [His] (Father's) kindness toward us through
Christ Jesus. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that
not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of (Father) God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are His
(Father's) workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works,
which (Father) God hath before ordained that we should walk
  in them.

Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of
[our] faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the
cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the
  throne of God.

But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit
on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool?

Who [is] he that condemneth? [It is] Christ that
died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand
of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

Note:  It is Father God in/with Christ who makes
intercession for us, the two having become one!

Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called [to be] an
apostle, separated unto the gospel of God,

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of
Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that
believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

That I should be the minister of Jesus Christ to the
Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering up
of the Gentiles might be acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Ghost.

For the time [is come] that judgment must
begin at the house of God: and if [it] first [begin] at us, what shall
the end [be] of them that obey not the gospel of God?

He was in the world, and the world was made by Him, and
  the world knew Him not.

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt
among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten
(offspring) of the Father, full of grace and truth.

Note: Suggest you read all of John 1, asking the Holy Spirit
  for Father's discernment.

But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit,
if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man
have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His.  And if
Christ [be] in you, the body [is] dead because of sin; but the
Spirit [is] life because of righteousness.  But if the
Spirit of Him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, He that raised
up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by His Spirit
that dwelleth in you. Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not
to the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if ye live after the flesh, ye
shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the
body, ye shall live.  For as many as are led by the Spirit
of God, they are the sons of God.

For the Father himself loveth you, because ye
have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.

These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to
heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son
also may glorify thee:  As thou hast given him power over all flesh,
that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. And this
is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus
Christ, whom thou hast sent. I have glorified thee on the earth: I have
finished the work which thou gavest me to do.  And now, O Father,
glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee
before the world was.  I have manifested thy name unto the men which
    thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me;
and they have kept thy word.  Now they have known that all things
whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee. For I have given unto them the
words which thou gavest me; and they have received [them], and have known
surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst
send me. I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou
hast given me; for they are thine. And all mine are thine, and thine are
mine; and I am glorified in them.  And now I am no more in the world,
but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through
thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we
[are].  While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name:
those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son
    of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled. And now come I to thee;
and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled
in themselves. I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them,
because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.  I
pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou
shouldest keep them from the evil. They are not of the world, even as I am
not of the world.  Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the
world. And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be
sanctified through the truth. Neither pray I for these alone, but for them
    also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one;
as thou, Father, [art] in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in
us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which
thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that
the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast
loved me. Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me
where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for
thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.
